    Pilot Trial Exploring Non-Invasive Assessment of Microvascular Disease

    A new pilot trial has commenced at St Mary's Hospital to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of non-invasive imaging techniques in identifying coronary microvascular dysfunction, with initial results expected later this year.

    Currently, the gold standard for diagnosing microvascular angina involves invasive procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. This trial aims to validate advanced cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) and positron emission tomography (PET) protocols as robust, non-invasive alternatives.

    If successful, this approach could revolutionize the diagnostic pathway for patients with suspected microvascular disease, reducing the need for invasive testing and allowing for earlier initiation of targeted therapies. The trial is currently recruiting patients, and we look forward to sharing the preliminary data.
